What To Watch For: April 13-19
With only one week remaining in the regular season, the Albany Devils are hanging onto their Calder Cup Playoff aspirations. The Devils have 79 points after 73 games and trail the eighth-place Portland Pirates, who have 83 points after 73 contests, and the ninth-place Springfield Falcons, who have 83 points after 74 outings. In order to qualify for the postseason, Albany must win their final three game and get some help from Portland and Springfield losses.
The Week Ahead
All three of Albany’s games this week are against teams with playoff berths. The Devils (34-28-5-6) host the fifth-place Syracuse Crunch (41-23-9-0) Wednesday at 7 pm before traveling to face the fourth-place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (43-23-3-4) Friday at 7:05 pm. Albany concludes the regular season at home against the third-place Hartford Wolf Pack (41-23-5-4) Saturday at 5 pm.
Fan Appreciation Weekend
As a thank you to their fans, the Devils will host “Fan Appreciation Weekend” on Friday and Saturday. Fans are invited to a viewing party Friday at Recovery Sports Grill in Guilderland, NY to watch the team take on the Penguins. The next evening is “Fan Appreciation Night” at Times Union Center. Throughout the game, fans will have chances to win a load of prizes.
Can He Do It?
Paul Thompson has a chance to win the AHL’s goal-scoring race. He is second with 33 goals, trailing Grand Rapids’ Teemu Pulkkinen, who has 34 tallies. Pulkkinen is currently on recall, playing for Detroit.
The Devils went 1-2-0-0 during their three road games last weekend. The team lost to the Binghamton Senators, 6-3, Friday and fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack, 2-1, Saturday. Albany rebounded with a 3-2 victory against the Worcester Sharks Sunday.
